Survey Trainee

Job description
The Survey Trainee is responsible for supporting survey operations during offshore projects, providing assistance with online data acquisition and technical survey systems.
The role is designed to provide broad exposure to survey operations, with the potential to progress into either Online Surveyor or Survey Technician positions.
The duties shall include but not be limited to:
Work under the direction of the Party Chief and senior survey personnel
Assist with the setup, testing, calibration, and maintenance of vessel and ROV survey equipment
Support positioning and navigation systems (e.g. gyro, USBL, MRU, DGPS, INS)
Monitor real-time survey data to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements
Assist with troubleshooting survey equipment and technical issues
Support offshore data management, including logging, backup, archiving, and handover
Contribute to reporting through accurate data logs and system documentation
Assist with mobilisation and demobilisation of survey spreads
Attend training activities, including those outside shift where beneficial
Participate in competence development towards Online Surveyor or Survey Technician roles
Ensure all work complies with company, client, and HSE standards
Qualifications
Degree level qualification in Survey, Geomatics or similar, preferably with a strong Hydrographic element or elective.
OR
Degree level qualification in Electronics, Computing, Networking or similar
OR
Professional experience of either Hydrographic Survey, Electronics, Networking, or Computing
Familiarity with or willingness to learn survey software (e.g., EIVA, Sonardyne, Exail, or equivalent).
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Motivation to complete the Survey Trainee competency program.
Valid offshore certifications (BOSIET/FOET, Offshore Medical, etc.) or willingness to obtain.
Personal Qualities
Proactive approach and willingness to learning and solution-oriented mindset.
Capacity to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in offshore environments
Willingness to work in remote locations and unsociable hours while remaining considerate towards team members and maintaining high levels of professionalism, personal responsibility and accountability.
Competent of working both independently and collaboratively within teams.
